VARIETY: Special FX, Royal Exchange, every Friday

COMEDY, belly dancing and jazz clarinettist Arun Ghosh are among the highlights of a new summer season of Special FX, the popular programme of free entertainment staged every Friday in the Royal Exchange foyer.

It’s been running for two weeks now, but the entertainment continues on Friday, July 18, when Arun Ghosh returns with his indo-jazz ensemble.

His smoky clarinet sounds have become a very popular fixture in the SFX schedules and his previous visits have all attracted large crowds, so audiences are advised to arrive early to bag a seat.

The musical styles change when Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine Band bring their good-time, foot-stomping, toe-tickling fun tunes to the Great Hall on July 25.

The Northern Belly Company shimmies back for a second SFX appearance, rocking the Casbah (all right, the Exchange!) with authentic Arabic dance and live drumming on August 1, before Arun Ghosh returns to round off the season in style on August 8.

Special FX entertainment is free. All entertainment runs from 6-7pm in The Great Hall, Royal Exchange Theatre.
