What's so special about wardens?

Vic Barlow

FOR THE past number of years, Macclesfield Borough Council have been shedding their responsibilities like snakeskin. Housing, highways, you name it… they don’t want it.

So why do you suppose they want to take over street parking from the police? Why are they so eager to recruit an army of wardens?

OK, we need to crack down on illegal parking, but even when embattled residents screamed for help, MBC didn’t rush to finance Police Community Support Officers. What’s so special about parking wardens?

It wouldn’t be that MBC anticipate making a big profit, would it? Are we going from a parking free-for-all to the exploitation of every minor infringement?

Wouldn’t it be great to organise a ‘park legal’ campaign and see what happens when MBC lose money? Watch this space.

This is ridiculous. The Police took the responsibility for parking and clearly didn't do a very effective job. In fact they did no job. Someone has to do it - would you rather it were the Council or some tinpot wheel clamping group that terrorises some other areas?

No contest. It has to be the Council.

Spot on? I will wait to see with interest how your proposed campaign goes - feel free to keep us all updated. Hot air and bluster as usual.
