Rats to fortnightly collections

Vic Barlow

REMEMBER when politicians told us high rise flats were the housing of the future before pulling them all down 20 years later?

Remember weekly bin collections and how we were conned into a fortnightly service? Well, it’s going the way we always knew it would.

A plague of rats is now running rampant all over the Colshaw Farm Estate, terrorising families, spreading panic and summer hasn’t arrived yet. Imagine the outcome once we have a spell of hot weather.

As usual the council are in complete denial as they were when young families and pensioners found themselves marooned at the top of tower blocks when elevators didn’t work.

MBC plan to ‘step up’ its drive to educate residents on how to control rodents. Yeah, right. How about they just ‘step up’ their collection of rubbish? We’ve been here before. The moment disease breaks out across the borough they’ll be scuttling around like err…rats trying to cover their backs.

They’ll be box ticking at the speed of light.

It’ll be your fault, my fault, the rats’ fault but it definitely won’t be theirs.

This is just the sort of nonsense we have to endure before stark reality sets in. If you were stuck in one of those disastrous tower blocks you’ll know the form.

It starts by foisting a stupid idea on reluctant residents then insisting it’s a huge success when it clearly is not. There follows a period of recrimination when they blame residents, the weather, dog dirt and Brussels.

Finally, when disaster strikes they change tack and reverse the whole process presenting it as the greatest initiative ever launched.

Rats!

I am confused. How have the rats got there in the first place and why is no-where else infested if the same processes re collections are happening? Someone is to blame, i'm suggesting we blame a combination of residents AND the council to keep everybody happy.
