Rats plague estate

by Chris Hudson
30/ 4/2008

A PLAGUE of rats is terrorising Colshaw Farm Estate and residents are pointing the finger at the council’s fortnightly wheelie bin collection.

Rodents have swarmed the former council estate over the last week leaving some too scared to leave their homes.

The rats, which can reach up to one foot in length, have been gorging on litter and rubbish in over-flowing wheelie bins. They have been spotted moving brazenly between gardens using the tops of fences in broad daylight.

I think what the council has wrote is a cop out, I live on Colshaw and I personally think that the rubbish collection every 2 weeks is terrible I have friends that live in Manchester their bins are collected weekly. the question has to be asked why do residence of macclesfield only get their rubbish collected every 2 weeks? wouldnt be as bad if there was a local tip!!

Im sure that Colshaw rat problem is no worse than most other residential areas, rats always live close to a food source, so in order to get rid of them you need to stop leaving rubbish on the streets(not just colshaw but everywhere). The council need to get tough with these people just across the road from where I live they are always leaving black bags out on the street its not only a health issue but it looks bad makes the estate look scruffy and in this heat its too it smells

I make my bin last every 2 weeks (you have too) by recycling, but in order to make my bin last I have to collect all my plastics (milk bottles etc) and take them out of the area either poynton or stockport as macclesfield dont do recycling for plastics so basically another council not my council have to deal with my plastics

One tip to help make the bin last is to not put your rubbish in the wheelie bin in black bags as that bulks the bin out and looses space I empty my rubbish straight into the wheelie bin and over the 2 weeks it condences down so you can get more in milk bottles (if you put them in your bin) wash them out and squash them again makes more room

This isn't a wheelie Bin problem. Our Bins are emptied only once a fortnight.we haven't got any rats. It's a problem caused by people who could not care less where they throw their refuse. Then you get.''IT WASN'T ME!

Quite frankly, if some of the Colshaw resisdents actually PLACED their waste in a bin or act with a modicum of social responsibility and take any excess waste to the dump and not just deposit it at the end of the carparks with the "well someone will have to take it away" attitude then there wouldnt be any rat problems on Colshaw.
