Anger as a disabled driver is ticketed for overstepping bay

A MOTORIST is furious that a disabled driver has been ticketed for having two wheels outside parking bay markings in an area where not doing so makes it almost impossible to get out of the car.
Jo Watson, 49, of Little Warford, was slapped with a £70 fine for the exact same offence opposite the BP garage on Parsonage Green but feels aggrieved for the disabled car owner behind her vehicle and not for herself.
The Redesmere Day Care Centre volunteer said that she was in the wrong for having two wheels outside the lines but finds it difficult to get out unless she parks like that and if she finds it hard then a disabled driver will find it even more difficult.
She said: "I teach a support class at Redesmere Day Care Centre and I know all the form filling you have to go through to get the blue disabled badge. The car behind me was clearly showing its badge and had to park the way it did so the driver could get out. This situation needed common sense applying to it, unfortunately common sense is not that common."
A spokesman for Macclesfield Borough Council said: "We have said we are monitoring how the parking enforcement is going. These decisions are being made on the spot and if the person is not happy then they should appeal."
The disabled driver could not be contacted.
