Styal's catching is off-key against HMV

STYAL won the toss and inserted Heaton Mersey Village with hopes of continuing recent good fielding displays.
If only a few of the seven dropped chances, ranging from fairly difficult to dolly, had been taken, HMV would have been bowled out for a modest score.
They took advantage and Styal’s bowlers grew more exasperated as each chance went down. Makhyoum hit 75 and was backed up by Padbury (16) and Phardke (27).
Styal’s opening bowlers Neil Barker and Mo Baig deserved better support, working hard for one wicket each.
In the end, Styal restricted HMV’s score to 178-7. Steve Vose chipped in with three for 55 and Ben Hayes took two for 28.
After dropping so many chances it was with a stunned silence that Styal’s fortunes changed with an incredible diving one-handed catch from Baig.
Styal’s reply started at a pace in excess of the required run rate, until Vose was bowled for 10. Neil Barker made a fine aggressive 50 until he found a fielder in the deep.
Then came a collapse with only Tim Hadfield (19) and Chris Nolan (27) having good knocks, Styal falling 30 runs short of the target.
