First maximum for Wayfarers

WILMSLOW Wayfarers returned to winning ways as they beat Holmes Chapel to claim their first 25-pointer of the season.

They amassed 195 on a difficult surface before running through the visiting batsmen, leaving them 88ao.

James Bennett took a fantastic ‘five-fer’, including a hat-trick to finish the game.

After being put in, Wayfarers openers Hassard and Matthews started well and grafted through a difficult period with the new ball before Matthews departed.

Wilmslow carried on the progress but lost wickets at crucial times, which meant they could never really get away from the visitors. At 56-3, Wayfarers

countered as Bennett took the attack to the bowlers, and hitting aggressively.

Although they lost their last five wickets swiftly, they claimed maximum batting points in making 195.

With Baldwin injured, Unsworth Snr and Atherton opened up the attack well and Chapel slumped to 51-3.

Wayfarers then charged to victory, Bennett completing his hat-trick to end Holmes’ resistance on 88 all out.
