Fine start for Horsey in Open

STYAL’S rookie professional David Horsey showed that he could hold his own with the best in his opening two rounds in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
A stunning finish of birdie-eagle-birdie saw him leap into the top 20 with a second-round level par 70.
But after that he was affected by the strong winds and had to settle for a final 20-over-par return, but with many famous names left in his wake.
Horsey said: "I could not get it going in the wind and I lost some of my rhythm, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing in my first ‘major’.
"Making the cut was great, but obviously I would liked to have finished better. It was good to see my family, friends and Styal members out there supporting me though."
Now it’s back to the Challenge Tour in Glamorgan this week where Horsey will be looking for a third victory which would virtually guarantee his place on the full European Tour next year.
