Nield applies the KO

FAIRFIELD Golf Club reached the climax to a season of knockout matches with their finals day featuring three competitions.

The president's knockout cup for men was won by Bob Nield with a 3-2 success over Simon Currier.

However, Currier hit back on a marathon day by winning the mens foursomes final in combination with Stuart Allcock

Completing the honours was Wendy Ryan who beat Nicky Proffitt in the ladies singles final.

Denton’s men were in singles Stableford mode and J Heap was the main man with his 43-pointer seeing him home in division two.

It was closer in division one as Tom Gordon needed a countback on 40 to shake off K Halliwell.

A Wednesday medal at Denton saw Les Pattinson in the comfort zone with his 65 seeing him three shots clear.

Denton’s ladies were in medal mode and R Crossley was first past the post on 76.

The Lowe Trophy at Stamford produced a three-way tie on 64 with Stuart Fletcher eventually getting home ahead of Dave Batty and Alan Gledhill.

A Stamford open day betterball Stableford had Andy Earlam and Dan Rice posting an impressive 48 points.

Betterball medal play at Ashton had Nick Walsh and Barry Preece showing their quality with a winning 63.

Marple once more hosted the Manchester Alliance competition for the Glenmuir Cup.

The main prizes were presented to Blackley's dynamic duo of Julian Robinson and Alan Lane after they had posted a superb 44 points late in the day.

Winter golf is now in full flow and will continue at all clubs until next March.
