Cheshire the champs again

CHESHIRE won the English Seniors' County Championship for the third time in four years when they beat Devon 5-4 on the final day at Trentham.
They started the last round trailing Shropshire and Herefordshire but defending champions Kent came to their rescue by beating them 6-3.
Cheshire, a point down from the foursomes, hit back in the singles as Roy Smethurst, Phil Jones, George Payne and Phil Slater put the issue beyond doubt.

SCOTT Connor, 21-year-old son of Hopwood pro Brian, has passed his final PGA examinations with flying colours and picked up a number of merits and distinctions along the way.
Scott, who works as an assistant to his dad and has introduced the game to more than 200 children, is off to the United States next month to develop his teaching techniques.
DUNKINFIELD professional David Green clocked up 38 points to win the individual prize in the Manchester Alliance at Sandiway where Hazel Grove pair James Hopley and amateur partner and clubmate Clive Beveridge won the pro-am with 45.
Am-am honours went to Fairfield Jim Cooper and Alex Dawber, who returned the same total.
MERE 10-handicapper Peter Smith won the Bentley Classic at Bovey Castle with 32 points.
