Evans signs new deal

ONE OF the highlights of last season, local lad Gareth Evans, has signed a new contract at Macclesfield.
The former Crewe Alexandra trainee came to the Moss Rose last summer on non-contract terms and then manager Ian Brightwell rewarded his efforts with a deal until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old striker clocked up nearly 50 appearances and seven goals - and Macc’s only red card - in a difficult campaign, including a crucial winner in a safety-securing victory at home to Chesterfield.
Evans’ winner in the final home game of the season broke an uncanny jinx, as Macc failed to win any of the previous games in which he had netted.
This week Evans put pen to paper on a new 12-month deal and will vie with Franny Green, Martin Gritton and Simon Yeo for a striking spot, although Evans has also impressed on the right side of midfield.
Macc manager Keith Alexander said: "I’ve been very pleased with Gareth’s progress, delighted with his commitment and I think he’ll be a regular fixture for me next season.
"He’s an important part of our striking options for next season. I’m confident that he can score goals for us."
- DEFENDER Matthew Flynn and midfielder Christian Millar have also signed one-year deals this week.
